In a notable development underscoring the pivotal role of youths in driving economic growth, it has been confirmed that young entrepreneurs are responsible for producing approximately 100 commodities sold at mass markets like Mbare Musika. Emphasizing the significance of this trend, Dr. Charles Dhewa, the CEO of Knowledge Transfer Africa, recognized the youth’s unwavering commitment to shaping the country’s economic landscape through agriculture.
Dr. Dhewa stated, “The youth dominate the production of 100 commodities sold at mass markets such as Mbare Musika, showcasing their entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach, redefining Zimbabwe’s agricultural and rural development sectors.”
Mr. Nickros Kajengo, the youth desk chief programs coordinator in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries, and Rural Development, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the potential of the youth-led movement to revolutionize the agricultural landscape and create sustainable livelihoods for future generations.
With the youth population comprising a significant portion of Zimbabwe’s demographic, their active participation in the economy is crucial for sustainable development. Embracing youth-led production and entrepreneurship signifies a positive shift towards a vibrant and inclusive economy, providing employment opportunities, reducing dependency on imports, and driving export growth, remarked Mr. Kajengo.
Furthermore, Mr. Kajengo emphasized the importance of supporting and empowering young farmers through mentorship, continuous access to resources, and government support to enhance their skills and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Mr. Joshua Zinzombe, the national youth secretary of the Zimbabwe Farmers Union, echoed the need for creating an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs, highlighting the youth’s pivotal role in the growth of the agricultural sector and the nation’s overall development. He urged fellow young farmers to recognize agriculture as a noble pursuit, emphasizing its significant impact on food supply to mass markets and its potential to shape the nation’s future.
The active participation of Zimbabwe’s youth in driving economic growth aligns with the theme “Positioning youth empowerment and development towards Vision 2030” underpinning the recent National Youth Day Celebrations. This movement signifies a fundamental shift, showcasing the zeal and determination of Zimbabwe’s youth in reshaping the economic landscape and contributing to the nation’s development goals.
