Ethiopia’s representative at the United Nations has voiced dismay over Somalia’s recent accusations and report to the UN Security Council. Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma Sabo expressed regret for Somalia’s statements and report, which alleged Ethiopia’s violations of Somalia’s sovereignty and military intervention along their shared borders.
Ambassador Tesfaye vehemently defended Ethiopia’s agreement with Somaliland, emphasizing that it does not breach international law. He also highlighted Ethiopia’s substantial contributions to Somalia’s peace and security, citing Ethiopian soldiers’ sacrifices in combatting Al-Shabaab.
Furthermore, Ethiopia has affirmed its willingness to engage in dialogue with Somalia to uphold their vital cooperation for the security of the Horn of Africa region. However, Catriona Laing, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Somalia, conveyed disappointment to the Security Council, stating that a recent African Union meeting in Addis Ababa failed to ease tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia.
