In a recent interview, Nollywood actor Stephen Alajemba, also known as Uwaezuoke, asserted that he is second only to Pete Edochie in terms of the number of years spent in the Nigerian movie industry. Alajemba expressed his deep respect for Edochie, acknowledging him as the only individual he considers as his senior in the industry. However, Alajemba also emphasized the pivotal role of late Solomon Eze, popularly known as Mike Orihedịmma, in pioneering Igbo movies and by extension, Nollywood.
During the interview with popular YouTuber Yan Kontent Factory, Alajemba highlighted Orihedịmma’s significant contributions to the film industry, asserting that he was the primary influence behind the training of many actors active today. Alajemba further credited Orihedịmma with being the inspiration for influential figures such as Kenneth Nnebue and Pauloo, who wrote the groundbreaking film ‘Living In Bondage.’
In emphasizing his own seniority within the industry, Alajemba challenged other actors to disclose the first movie they participated in and its release year, suggesting that only Pete Edochie meets his criteria for a senior counterpart due to his role in ‘Things Fall Apart.’ This declaration underscores Alajemba’s unwavering confidence in his own longstanding presence and impact in the Nigerian movie industry.
