Political Defection Rocks Abia State as Former PDP Supporters Join Labour Party

In a surprising turn of events, Okochi Okali-Oge, along with hundreds of followers, has abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State to pledge their support for the Labour Party. Okali-Oge, the former General Manager of the Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency (ABROMA), made this dramatic shift in a press statement issued in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

The defection comes on the heels of Okali-Oge’s unsuccessful bid as the Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate for the Ohafia North constituency seat in the 2023 State House of Assembly elections. Despite his defeat in the polls to the Labour Party candidate, who now represents Ohafia North in the state legislative house, Okali-Oge initially switched to the PDP before ultimately moving to the Labour Party.

During the announcement, Okali-Oge pointed to the lack of internal democracy within the Abia State chapter of the PDP as a key factor driving his decision to switch parties. He commended Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party for their dedication to fulfilling promises and their notable efforts in advancing the state’s infrastructure.

“I have seen firsthand the commitment of the Labour Party in delivering on its pledges to the people. I am joining them to contribute to the progress of our state,” Okali-Oge stated, emphasizing his willingness to leverage his expertise in engineering for the development of Abia State.

The defection of Okali-Oge and his supporters signifies a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, highlighting the evolving dynamics and alliances within Abia’s political sphere.
