Edo guber Apapas LP faction unveils another candidate

In a swift turn of events, the Labour Party faction led by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa has revealed its candidate for the upcoming Edo State governorship election. This announcement comes right on the heels of Barrister Olumide Akpata’s emergence as the candidate of the Julius Abure-led faction less than a day ago.

The declaration of Barrister Olumide Akpata as the party’s candidate was made during a governorship primary in Benin City, where he secured 316 votes, surpassing other contenders. However, the Apapa-led faction wasted no time in putting forward its own contender for the race.

In a letter dated February 22, 2024, addressed to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, on behalf of the faction, submitted the names of the party’s chosen candidate and deputy governorship candidate. Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota was named as the governorship candidate, with Barrister Monday Ojore Mawah as the running mate.

The selection of Asemota and Mawah was the result of a primary held on February 22, 2024, in Benin City, according to Apapa. This move showcases the faction’s determination to field their own contenders in the upcoming election.

When reached for comment, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa confirmed the authenticity of the letter, stating, “Yes, it is true. The letter is from us.”

This development adds a new dimension to the Edo State governorship race, setting the stage for a competitive and dynamic electoral process in the region.
