The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operation Base in Ibaka, Akwa Ibom, has made a significant bust by apprehending two individuals and confiscating a wooden boat containing 5,100 liters of petrol. The commanding officer, Uche Aneke, transferred the suspects, the boat, and the petrol to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ibaka.

According to Navy Captain Aneke, a patrol team acted upon intelligence received on February 22, leading to the arrest of the suspects engaged in suspected smuggling activities within the region. The interception of the wooden boat revealed the presence of the two suspects and the hidden petrol beneath various goods like yams, drinks, beverages, and floor tiles, all concealed under tarpaulin sheets.

Aneke issued a stern warning to those involved in unlawful practices, emphasizing the consequences of disregarding the law. He further cautioned criminals to avoid Nigeria’s territorial waters, stating that security agencies would not tolerate illicit operations along the country’s coastal zones.

Michael Asibor, head of the anti-vandalism unit at NSCDC in Akwa Ibom, assured thorough prosecution of the case upon taking custody of the suspects and seized items. This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and maintain security in Nigeria’s maritime regions.
