Afenifere Urges Restraint Amid Nigerian Economic Hardship

Amid the challenging economic climate in Nigeria, Afenifere, a prominent pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has issued a plea to Yorubas, as well as all Nigerians, to refrain from partaking in the upcoming nationwide protests.

Reuben Fasoranti, the chairman of the Afenifere Elders Caucus, has implored Yorubas and the broader populace to show understanding towards the government led by Tinubu. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recently announced intentions for a two-day strike on February 27 and 28 in protest of the prevailing economic difficulties faced by citizens.

Fasoranti emphasized that the economic strategies implemented by the federal administration are aimed at fostering prosperity within the nation. He underscored the government’s dedication to tackling the underlying causes of the existing economic challenges.

In a signed statement, Fasoranti articulated, “As a responsible leader, I urge all Yorubas, irrespective of age, and our fellow compatriots from all ethnic backgrounds, to exercise patience and abstain from participating in demonstrations or activities that could heighten tensions. The widespread concerns regarding hardships, hunger, and price escalations are to be anticipated. Nevertheless, we must confront the realities of our national predicaments, which the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is diligently working to resolve.”
