In the midst of a deepening cost of living crisis and escalating insecurity, Senator Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central, has urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly organize a national stakeholders engagement forum. The objective is to address and resolve the critical issues plaguing the country.

Fadeyi commended President Tinubu for providing relief to Nigerians but expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the distribution to the intended recipients. In a conversation with The Media Talk Africa, the Peoples Democratic Party Senator emphasized the urgent need for leaders to come together and tackle the pressing challenges faced by the nation.

Reflecting on the current state of affairs since the new administration took office, Fadeyi remarked on the severity of the situation. He highlighted the mounting challenges such as soaring living costs, increasing insecurity, currency devaluation leading to higher inflation, and the consequences of fuel subsidy removal.

The Senator stressed the necessity for a transparent and non-partisan national stakeholders engagement led by President Tinubu to devise actionable solutions. He underscored the importance of reassessing the implementation of relief projects to ensure they deliver the intended outcomes.

Despite the government’s initiatives to remove petrol subsidies and unify the exchange rate, Fadeyi pointed out that these policies have not yielded the desired results, causing continued hardships for Nigerians. He emphasized the need for bold decisions to alleviate the deteriorating economic conditions.

According to Fadeyi, addressing corruption in the energy supply chain and potentially reversing the subsidy removal policy could help reduce inflation and ease the burden on businesses and individuals. He advocated for the establishment of a National Subsidy Fund to support critical sectors like food, agriculture, transportation, education, and youth employment.

While acknowledging that there are no instant solutions to the deep-rooted issues, Fadeyi stressed the importance of taking decisive actions to prevent further escalation of the crisis. He emphasized the significance of implementing measures that could stabilize the economy and improve the welfare of the Nigerian populace.

As the nation grapples with multifaceted challenges, the call for a national stakeholders forum gains prominence as a platform for constructive dialogue and strategic decision-making to navigate towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
