Rivers United Stage Dramatic Comeback to Secure Victory Against Academica Do Lobito

On a thrilling Sunday night in Luanda, Rivers United triumphed over Academica do Lobito with a 3-2 victory in the CAF Confederation Cup Group C encounter. This crucial win significantly enhances the Port Harcourt club’s prospects of advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament.

Academica do Lobito initially seized the lead in the 37th minute courtesy of Cabibi’s penalty. However, Rivers United swiftly retaliated as Udom Edem Ekarette netted an equalizer just three minutes later. Before the halftime whistle, Alex Oyowah propelled the visitors ahead for the first time in the match.

The momentum continued in the second half, with Farouk Mohammed, the Ghanaian midfielder, extending Rivers United’s lead just three minutes after the restart. Despite Fernando Camuege’s effort in the 68th minute, which narrowed the scoreline for Academica do Lobito, it was not enough to derail Rivers United’s resolve.

Following this remarkable comeback, Rivers United maintains their position in third place in Group C, accumulating nine points from five matches. The team’s resilience and determination throughout the game underscore their ambition to progress further in this prestigious continental competition.
