A former Chief Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, has made startling allegations of electoral manipulation during the 2023 general election. Speaking at a rally in Port Harcourt, Bipi accused the then-governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, of rigging the polls in favor of his party.
Bipi’s claims surfaced during a solidarity event for the state governor, organized by women groups from the 23 local government areas. He boldly stated that the Labour Party had emerged victorious in all their contested seats in the state.
In a video from the rally, Bipi responded to recent comments by Wike, who had confidently asserted that no one could challenge him or his allies in the upcoming election. The former Chief Whip, standing in for Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the event, expressed confidence in Fubara’s ability to secure a resounding victory with the overwhelming support from the mobilized women.
Challenging Wike’s assertions, Bipi alleged that Wike and his associates had not legitimately won any seats in the 2023 elections. Quoting biblical scripture, he emphasized the temporary nature of their perceived power, likening it to the vanishing Egyptians in Exodus 14:13.
Mocking Wike’s hopes for future elections, Bipi highlighted the perceived shortcomings of Wike’s camp and insinuated that their performance in governance did not merit continued support from the electorate. This bold accusation underscores the contentious political landscape in Rivers State and raises questions about the integrity of the electoral process under Wike’s leadership.
