The Nigeria Customs Service is investigating a case involving an officer, SC Ibrahim Suleiman, who allegedly extorted N500,000 from a car buyer named Mohammad Dahiru Ahmad. The incident took place in Mokwa, Niger State, as Ahmad was returning from Lagos.

Ahmad claimed that despite providing all necessary documents for the vehicle, Suleiman and his team demanded a bribe of N500,000 to release the car. Following a report on the incident, the suspect has been handed over to the Assistant Provost Marshal, Customs Police Unit, Kaduna.

In a statement, the spokesman of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ Kaduna, Isah Suleiman, emphasized the commitment of the Customs Service to uphold discipline and address such misconduct with seriousness. The leadership, including Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, is dedicated to ensuring a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

The investigation findings will be forwarded to NCS-HQ for further steps by the Nigeria Customs Service Board. The Customs Service aims to maintain transparency and deter such behavior through a fair and transparent process. Updates on the progress of the investigation will be provided to the public.

Efforts are underway to uncover the truth behind the allegation, with a focus on accountability and integrity within the Customs Service. The commitment to addressing misconduct underscores the importance of upholding ethical standards and serving the public diligently.
