Nairobi – The Meteorological Department in Kenya has issued a warning concerning heavy rainfall across various regions in the country. Areas affected include Western, South Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Central Highlands, Southeastern Lowlands, and Northwestern, with probabilities of occurrence between 33 to 60 percent. Authorities are advising residents to remain cautious as flash floods could occur in susceptible areas. The heavy rains are expected to continue until the week’s end, according to the latest weather projections.
In contrast, residents in Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Laikipia, Baringo, West Pokot, Bungoma, Kakamega, and Busia are advised to prepare for scorching daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. These conditions can heighten health risks such as dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Additionally, certain areas in Nyeri, Laikipia, and Murang’a counties are anticipated to have chilly nights with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.
Citizens are urged to stay updated on changing weather conditions and follow safety guidelines. For the week commencing February 20 to February 26, Kenyans are encouraged to stay hydrated, shield themselves from the sun’s intense heat during hot spells, and dress warmly to combat cooler temperatures at night.
