Meningitis outbreak hits Bauchi

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, BASPHCDA, has confirmed a meningitis outbreak in the State.

An official of the Agency who spoke under the condition of anonymity in an interview with Media Talk Africa on Thursday said 6 cases of cerebrospinal meningitis, CSM, have been recorded so far.
The official said that proactive measures have been taken to curtail the disease in the state.

He said the measures were taken to avert further outbreaks, particularly in local government areas, LGAs, bordering Yobe State, such as Gamawa, Dambam, Zaki, Katagum, and other areas in Itas/Gadau.
He added that part of the proactive approach is contact tracing within the communities so that any victim can be treated and isolated for proper monitoring and evaluation.
