Senate Urges Police Service Commission to Recruit 10 Candidates from Each LGA

The Senate has called on the Police Service Commission to recruit a minimum of 10 candidates from each of the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria. This decision was made in response to the Buhari administration’s directive to recruit 10,000 constables annually to address the country’s security challenges.

Senator Udende Memga presented the motion, emphasizing the importance of implementing this policy to strengthen community policing. He highlighted the need to reflect the principles of federal character in the recruitment process, promoting inclusion, representation, and a sense of belonging for all regions.

By recruiting based on LGA parameters, the aim is to foster national unity, loyalty, and eliminate marginalization. Senator Memga stressed the significance of fair representation for all LGAs to prevent inequality in the recruitment process.

This move towards a more inclusive recruitment strategy aligns with the constitutional mandate to uphold the federal character principle. It is a step towards creating a balanced and united polity, ensuring that every region is fairly represented in government agencies.
