Tragic Road Accident Claims Two Lives at Azia Junction, Anambra State

Two lives were tragically lost in a devastating road accident at Azia junction, Ihiala on the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway in Anambra State. The incident, which occurred at around 9:30 am, involved a commercial driver of a Mercedes truck who lost control due to excessive speed.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the driver, in a rush, veered off course and crashed into a large gutter by the roadside. The impact of the crash was fatal, claiming the lives of both the driver and his conductor. Their bodies were swiftly taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala by compassionate passersby before the arrival of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rescue team.

Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Anambra State, confirmed the details of the accident, emphasizing that speed and loss of control were the primary factors leading to the tragic outcome. The debris from the crash has since been cleared, restoring normalcy to the expressway.

In response to the incident, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi of the FRSC in Anambra State extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all motorists to prioritize safety on the roads. He emphasized the importance of driving within safe speed limits to prevent such heartbreaking accidents, reminding everyone that road safety is a collective responsibility.
