Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has made a shocking accusation against the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Austin Agada, and Executive Director, Finance and Accounts at Federal Housing Authority FHA, Matthias Byuan. According to Governor Alia, these individuals hired armed men and thugs to create chaos and instability in the state.
The situation escalated when the armed men, accompanying Agada and Byuan, entered the town in a convoy and began shooting indiscriminately upon reaching Tito Gate, Kashim Ibrahim road, Makurdi. They proceeded to lead the armed men through parts of the old GRA, heading towards property number 75, J S Tarka Way, reportedly owned by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. However, the Nigerian Police intervened, engaging the armed group before they managed to escape.
In a statement released to journalists in Makurdi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, expressed concern over the incident. Governor Alia had previously issued a ban on all political and social gatherings in the state, a directive that was reiterated by the Commissioner of Police, Benue State command. Despite these measures, there are still individuals intent on disrupting the peace and progress that Governor Alia is working to achieve.
The security situation in Benue State has been tense recently, with the influx of armed herders causing unrest. Governor Alia’s administration is committed to restoring calm and ensuring the safety of all residents. The government urges the people of Benue to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, calling on security agencies to apprehend those responsible for inciting violence.
It is crucial for the authorities to take swift action against these troublemakers to prevent further destabilization and send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated. The people of Benue deserve to live in peace and security, free from the threat of violence and intimidation.
