The Akoko Progressive Movement, a faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has raised concerns about Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa allegedly rewarding individuals who opposed the party during the 2023 primary elections with appointments.
According to a statement released by the group’s Director of Media, Seye Johnson, two recently appointed cabinet members were accused of not supporting President Bola Tinubu’s aspirations during the 2023 polls. This has caused unease among party members in the state, with many feeling that loyal APC members have been overlooked in favor of those who worked against the party.
The group specifically highlighted the appointment of an individual who openly campaigned against Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during the Akoko North-West/Akoko North-East House of Representatives election in 2023. They deemed this decision as unacceptable and detrimental to the party’s unity and integrity.
The Akoko Progressive Movement expressed concerns that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s actions may be undermining the APC’s presence in Ondo State. They called on the national leadership of the party to intervene and address the situation to prevent further political discord within the state.
It is evident that tensions are rising within the APC in Ondo State, with accusations of favoritism and betrayal causing rifts among party members. The Akoko Progressive Movement’s plea for intervention underscores the need for unity and cohesion within the party to ensure its continued success in the region.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the APC leadership to see how they handle these internal challenges and steer the party towards a path of stability and progress.
