After a recent clash between the communities of Eket, Esit Eket, and Ibeno in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno has issued a stern warning to all warring factions, urging them to prioritize peace. The conflict stemmed from a dispute over Stubb Creek, which the Governor clarified belongs to the state government as a designated forest reserve, not to any specific community.
During a visit to the area affected by the communal clash, Governor Eno emphasized the need for peace and unity among the communities. He also warned against any further violence, stating that the government has identified the instigators and will not hesitate to take action against them. The local government chairmen were given a directive to maintain law and order in their respective areas, with a clear ultimatum to prevent any recurrence of the conflict.
Addressing the chairmen directly, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, highlighting the interconnectedness of the communities and the senselessness of the ongoing clashes. He stressed the government’s commitment to resolving the issue and restoring peace to the region.
In addition to addressing the immediate security concerns, Governor Eno also highlighted the long-term benefits of preserving Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve. He emphasized the importance of the reserve for environmental conservation and job creation, particularly for the youth in the area.
Furthermore, Governor Eno took swift action to evacuate and provide medical care for the injured individuals, while deploying security personnel to prevent any further escalation of the conflict. He made it clear that the government will not tolerate any attempts to reignite the violence and that those responsible will face consequences.
As the legal battle over the state’s new map continues, Governor Eno appealed for patience and understanding from all parties involved.
