Nigeria’s Quest for Brit Awards Glory Falls Short Once Again

Nigeria’s hopes of securing a coveted Brit Award were dashed yet again as Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema missed out on taking home any trophies at this year’s prestigious ceremony held at London’s iconic 02 Arena.

Burna Boy and Asake were both in the running for the Best International Act of the Year award, but ultimately lost out to American sensation, SZA. Similarly, Rema’s chart-topping track ‘Calm Down’ was pipped to the post for the Best International Song of the Year accolade by Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers.’

Despite the disappointment of not clinching an award, Rema stole the show with a show-stopping performance of ‘Calm Down’ to close out the ceremony. He followed in the footsteps of Burna Boy, becoming only the second African artist to grace the BRITs stage.

In a night dominated by one artist, Raye made history by scooping an impressive six awards in a single year, setting a new record for the most wins in BRITs history. Her accolades included Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Songwriter of the Year.

The BRIT Awards once again proved to be a celebration of global music talent, showcasing the best and brightest stars from around the world. While Nigeria may have missed out on adding to its trophy cabinet this year, the country’s presence on the international music scene continues to grow, with artists like Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema making waves on a global scale.
