President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Tamim Al Thani, made history on Sunday in Doha by signing groundbreaking agreements that pave the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors. The agreements cover education, enterprise development, investment promotion, youth empowerment, mining, tourism, and sports.
Before the signing ceremony at the Qatar Presidential Palace, President Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to welcome investors, highlighting ongoing reforms that support innovation, return on investments, and multiculturalism. He emphasized the potential of Nigerian youths, describing them as energetic, talented, and reliable partners for Qatari industries.
Acknowledging Qatar’s rapid development, President Tinubu commended the country’s leadership and expressed Nigeria’s interest in deeper collaboration. He assured that Nigeria offers unmatched return on investment opportunities with its vast market of over 200 million skilled individuals.
The Emir of Qatar reciprocated President Tinubu’s enthusiasm for investment, underscoring the brilliance and hard work of the Nigerian people. He pledged to send a team of officials to Nigeria post-Ramadan to explore actionable investment opportunities.
President Tinubu appointed Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to lead the government team in engaging with Qatari authorities on investment identification and implementation.
During the bilateral discussions, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, highlighted Nigeria’s rich mineral resources, including lithium, and the potential for local mineral processing and value-additive industries.
The meeting culminated in the signing of seven bilateral agreements across education, employment regulation, business council establishment, youth and sports cooperation, tourism, business events, and combating illicit drug trade. The agreements were signed by Nigerian and Qatari officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Minister of Education and Higher Education, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi.
Key Nigerian ministers present at the ceremony included Muhammad Ali Pate, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and Ekperipe Ekpo, among others, along with National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen.
The signing of these agreements marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Nigeria and Qatar, opening doors for enhanced collaboration and mutual benefit in various sectors.
