Omonia Nicosia Terminates Contract with Former Golden Eaglets Winger Akinkunmi

Cypriot First Division club, Omonia Nicosia, recently made headlines as they announced the early termination of the contract of former Golden Eaglets prodigy, Akinkunmi Amoo. The 21-year-old winger and the club came to a mutual agreement to part ways due to personal reasons, marking the end of his brief stint with the league champions.

Amoo, who joined Omonia Nicosia in September 2023 on a three-year deal, failed to make a significant impact during his time at the club, making just six appearances without finding the back of the net. Prior to his time in Cyprus, the Nigerian talent had spells in Sweden with Hammarby IF and in Denmark with FC Copenhagen, showcasing his skills on the European stage.

A familiar face in Nigerian football circles, Amoo rose to prominence as a key player for the Nigeria U-17 side that competed in the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Tanzania. His talent and potential were further recognized as he was selected to represent his country at the senior level in the World Cup in Brazil later that same year.

Despite the premature end to his time at Omonia Nicosia, Akinkunmi Amoo’s journey in football continues, with fans eagerly anticipating his next move in the world of professional soccer. Stay tuned for more updates on this promising young talent as he navigates the highs and lows of the beautiful game.
