Dangote Refinery Honors Late Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe

Nigerian business magnate and Africa’s wealthiest individual, Aliko Dangote, has made a heartfelt gesture by naming the largest road network at the Dangote Refinery after the late Herbert Wigwe, the founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Holdings. This announcement was made during a night of tribute in Lagos, where Dangote praised Wigwe’s visionary leadership and dedication to excellence.

In his moving speech, Dangote emphasized the need to immortalize Wigwe, describing him as a transformative figure whose impact is felt across the economic and social fabric of Nigeria. He fondly referred to Wigwe as a devoted friend, mentee, and brother, highlighting his exceptional qualities as a leader and a person of integrity.

Wigwe, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in California alongside his wife, son, and a former group chairman, was known for his courage and distinction in the business world. Dangote expressed his deep gratitude towards Wigwe and acknowledged the difficulty of finding another individual of his caliber.

To honor Wigwe’s memory, Dangote decided to dedicate a significant portion of the refinery’s road network, spanning 120 kilometers, as the Herbert Wigwe Road. This gesture serves as a lasting tribute to a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the business community in Nigeria.

The announcement comes amidst the mourning period for Wigwe’s family, who recently shared details of his burial arrangements. The loss of such a prominent figure has deeply impacted the Nigerian business landscape, with many paying tribute to his legacy and contributions.

As we reflect on the life and legacy of Herbert Wigwe, let us remember his unwavering commitment to excellence and his enduring impact on the business world. May his memory continue to inspire future generations of leaders and entrepreneurs in Nigeria and beyond.
