Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde recently addressed the reasons behind the Peoples Democratic Party’s loss in the 2020 Ondo State Governorship election. He attributed the defeat to disunity and division within the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission has set November 16, 2024, as the date for the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election, with the party’s congress scheduled for April 25, 2024.
During an interactive meeting at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of unity within the party. He acknowledged the lessons learned from the previous election and declared that the party’s ticket would not be handed over easily. Instead, it would be a competitive battle among all aspirants.
Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, urged caution during the campaign process, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation among party members. The meeting also discussed key issues such as the mode of primaries, consensus, and zoning.
Prominent figures in attendance included Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, PDP Governorship candidate Eyitayo Jegede, and other party officials. The meeting aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders as the party prepares for the upcoming election.
