UAE Yet to Lift Visa Ban on Nigeria Despite Reports of Discussions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has clarified that the visa ban imposed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Nigerian travelers has not been lifted, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.

Contrary to viral claims that the visa restriction had been lifted following discussions between President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, stated that the UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians. He emphasized that the circulating document claiming otherwise is not authorized by either the Nigerian government or the UAE.

In October 2022, the UAE imposed a ban on citizens from around 20 African nations, including Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and others. This decision affected a significant number of travelers from these countries, leading to disruptions in travel plans and diplomatic relations.

The situation highlights the complexities of international travel and visa regulations, underscoring the need for clear communication and transparency between governments. As the issue continues to unfold, it is essential for travelers to stay informed and seek official guidance before making any travel arrangements to the UAE.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
