Destalker Opens Up About Battle with Depression and Suicidal Thoughts

Nigerian comedian Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, better known as Destalker, has bravely shared his personal struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide. After graduating from university, he found himself unable to secure a job and turned to working as a commercial motorcyclist.

The pressures of not being able to find a fulfilling job, combined with family expectations, pushed Destalker into a dark place of depression. In a candid conversation on the Afrobeats Podcast, he revealed, “I graduated with a degree in Public Administration but couldn’t find a job. So I started working as a commercial motorcyclist. But deep down, I knew I didn’t want to work for someone else. I had my own dreams and aspirations, even though society had its own expectations for me.”

Struggling with the weight of his circumstances, Destalker found himself battling suicidal thoughts. He opened up about attempting to take his own life three times, a side of him that few had ever seen. Through these dark moments, he came to a profound realization – that the mere fact he couldn’t go through with it meant that his destiny was not yet fulfilled. He shared, “When you’re at your lowest, that’s when your breakthrough is near. The challenges you face are just a test of your strength and determination.”

Destalker also acknowledged the role his colleague, Ajebo, played in his journey to success in the comedy industry. It was through Ajebo’s support and guidance that Destalker was able to make his mark and find his place in the world of comedy.

Destalker’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance, self-belief, and seeking help in times of need. His journey from the depths of despair to finding his purpose serves as an inspiration to all who may be facing similar struggles.
