President Bola Tinubu has revealed plans to revive the National Cattle Grazing Reserve Policy in a bid to address the ongoing conflicts between farmers and herdsmen. Speaking at the launch of the Food Security and Agricultural Mechanization Programme in Niger State, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency and protecting local industries for sustainable economic growth.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by roaming cows destroying crops and vegetation, Tinubu stressed the importance of reorienting herders and providing adequate facilities for cattle rearing. He called on state governors to allocate land for grazing reserves, while assuring his dedication to implementing a comprehensive program to tackle the issue.

The initiative to establish grazing reserves was initially introduced by the previous administration under Muhammadu Buhari, but faced opposition from some state governments who viewed it as a land-grabbing tactic. Tinubu’s inauguration of the agricultural project in Niger State signifies a significant step towards enhancing food security and mechanization in Nigeria, with the aim of not only feeding the population but also generating surplus for export.

During the event, Tinubu commended the leadership and commitment displayed in Niger State, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to address challenges and transform Nigeria into a land of opportunities. He urged sub-national governments to implement wage awards as a temporary solution to alleviate the financial burdens of citizens until a minimum wage increase is enacted.

In his closing remarks, President Tinubu reiterated his support for eradicating hunger and emphasized the importance of taking immediate action to reshape the country’s financial landscape. He called for unity and collective efforts in driving Nigeria towards a prosperous future, free from hunger and economic instability.

As the nation strives towards food security and economic prosperity, President Tinubu’s vision for revitalizing the National Cattle Grazing Reserve Policy stands as a pivotal step in resolving the longstanding conflicts between farmers and herdsmen, while paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
