10th AMVCA Celebrates Excellence in African Filmmaking with Femi Odugbemi as Head Judge

The 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to be a celebration like no other, marking a decade of brilliance, innovation, and the sheer magic of African storytelling on screen. The event, which has become a benchmark for excellence in the African film industry, will feature a diverse array of talent and films from across the continent.

Renowned filmmaker, director, and producer Femi Odugbemi has been announced as the head judge of the awards, bringing his wealth of experience and expertise to the judging panel. In her welcome speech, Busola Tejumola, executive head of content and channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, described the 10th AMVCA as a heritage of excellence that has improved careers and boosted talent development in Africa.

This year’s entries have impressed the jury and head judge, with a pool of quality submissions from filmmakers and talent across the continent. The award categories have been revamped for this special edition, with the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress categories now being determined by the jury.

The celebration will kick off on May 10 with the Young Filmmakers and Content Creators event in the morning, followed by the Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration in the evening, leading up to the Main Awards Ceremony on May 11. The final nominees in each category will be announced live across all Africa Magic channels on March 24, with the voting portal opening immediately after.

Odugbemi, reflecting on the task before the award jury, emphasized the dedication to excellence that the AMVCA represents. With sponsors like Amstel, Pepsi, Promasidor, and Martell on board, the event promises to be a showcase of the best in African film and television production.
