In a scathing critique of Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s administration, the Rivers State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, has accused the governor of reckless spending and lack of vision in the development of the state.
Speaking to reporters in Port Harcourt, Okocha lambasted Fubara for what he described as frivolous spending on thanksgiving ceremonies across the state, instead of focusing on crucial development projects. He highlighted the lack of continuity in road infrastructure projects, noting that the governor had deviated from the plans laid out by his predecessors.
Okocha emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in governance, questioning the governor’s priorities in transforming Songai farm and rehabilitating cassava plants, which he argued did not directly benefit the people of Rivers State.
Addressing the economic challenges facing the country, Okocha acknowledged the global nature of the hardship but criticized the governor for not effectively utilizing the federal allocation received by the state. He called on Fubara to prioritize the welfare of the people by conducting local government elections and involving the State Executive Council in decision-making processes.
Furthermore, Okocha urged the governor to work collaboratively with the State Assembly, where APC members hold the majority, to ensure effective governance and representation of the people’s interests.
As the debate over governance and development in Rivers State intensifies, Okocha’s bold statements underscore the need for accountability and strategic leadership to address the pressing issues facing the state. The call for transparency and inclusive governance resonates not only within the state but also on a national level, reflecting the broader concerns of citizens across Nigeria.
