Former Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Richard Olatunde, has refuted claims made by the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that the late governor wanted him to succeed him.

In a statement released to journalists, Olatunde clarified that the late governor never expressed a desire for Aiyedatiwa to take over as governor. He cautioned Aiyedatiwa against using the deceased governor’s name for political gain.

Olatunde highlighted that the relationship between the late governor and Aiyedatiwa had become strained and distant before the former’s passing. He mentioned that the late governor was disappointed by Aiyedatiwa’s behavior during his health challenges, which ultimately led to his demise.

Despite a video circulating from the swearing-in ceremony of the late governor and Aiyedatiwa as governor and deputy governor, respectively, Olatunde emphasized that the late Akeredolu never concealed his intentions. He urged Aiyedatiwa to focus on his campaign and cease deceptive tactics.

The narrative surrounding Aiyedatiwa’s alleged succession has caused controversy, with Olatunde cautioning against the exploitation of the late governor’s name. He stressed that Akeredolu’s loyal followers, including members of his family, do not support Aiyedatiwa’s bid for the party’s ticket.

The unfolding events in Ondo State’s political landscape reveal a tale of disappointment and betrayal, with Olatunde shedding light on the true sentiments of the late governor before his untimely passing. As the political atmosphere intensifies, the call for transparency and integrity in leadership remains paramount.
