Nigeria Premier Football League Referee Suspended for Matchday 24 Controversy

The Nigeria Football Federation has taken decisive action against centre referee Mohammed Gata, suspending him from officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League. This decision was confirmed by the Chairman of the Referee Committee, Mohammed Ameenu, in a memo sent to the official. The suspension of Gata is effective immediately.

The suspension comes in the wake of a controversial incident during the matchday 24 clash between Katsina United and Heartland at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium last weekend. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but referee Gata’s performance was called into question, leading to his suspension.

This is not an isolated incident, as two other match officials were also suspended following issues arising from the matchday 24 fixtures. The Nigeria Football Federation is taking a strong stance against any form of misconduct or incompetence among referees in the league.

The swift action taken by the NFF demonstrates their commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Premier Football League. Fans and players alike can have confidence that measures are being taken to ensure fair play and professionalism in every match.
