Abia State Governor Alex Otti has urged the management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent student protest that led to the closure of the institution. Governor Otti emphasized the importance of getting to the root cause of the unrest to prevent future disruptions.
In a meeting with a delegation from the university, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, Governor Otti expressed concern over the academic disruption caused by the closure of the school. He offered to collaborate with the university and other stakeholders to ensure the resumption of full academic activities.
“It is crucial that the investigation panel leaves no stone unturned in uncovering the reasons behind the protest. Prejudging the situation will only limit our ability to find a lasting solution,” Governor Otti stated.
Governor Otti also discussed the establishment of an Agric Business Incubation Centre at the university and directed relevant officials to engage with the institution on the matter. Additionally, he reassured that the ongoing court case between the university and the Abia State Internal Revenue Service would be resolved amicably.
The governor’s proactive approach to addressing the issues at MOUAU highlights his commitment to promoting peace and stability in the academic environment. By encouraging transparency and collaboration, Governor Otti aims to create a conducive atmosphere for learning and growth at the university.
