The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party is facing a potential crisis as Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a prominent member, is rumored to be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress. The Secretary of the Edo State PDP, Hilary Otsu, believes that the lack of true reconciliation within the party may be driving Ogbeide-Ihama’s decision.

Ogbeide-Ihama, a two-time House of Representatives member under the PDP, is reportedly being considered as the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo. This development has sparked discussions among top leaders of both parties, with meetings taking place to finalize the potential move.

However, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Peter Uwadiae, has denied these rumors, stating that Ogbeide-Ihama remains a member of the PDP and cannot be considered as a running mate for their candidate.

Otsu emphasized that politics is driven by personal and collective interests, and individuals have the right to make their own choices. He expressed concerns about the disunity within the PDP, particularly with the Legacy Group, and the potential impact on the upcoming governorship election in the state.

As the tenure of the PDP executive committee in the state comes to an end, there is uncertainty about the party’s future direction. Despite efforts to reconcile differences, the lack of progress in uniting the party has led to speculation about members defecting.

Ogbeide-Ihama, when contacted, did not provide any comments on the matter, leaving the situation unresolved. The potential departure of a prominent party member like Ogbeide-Ihama highlights the challenges facing the Edo State PDP and underscores the importance of genuine reconciliation within the party.
