Kaduna School Abduction: Terrorists Demand N1B Ransom in Kwiambana Forest

Bandits who recently abducted 287 pupils from a public school in Kaduna State are demanding a staggering N1 billion ransom for their release. The harrowing situation unfolded last week in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, leaving the community in shock and fear.

The kidnappers reached out to the school’s principal, Abubakar Isah, who was also taken captive during the raid. A close friend of the principal, Aminu Kuriga, received a call from the abductors on Tuesday, requesting the exorbitant sum in exchange for the safe return of the children.

The terrorists disclosed their location as the northern fringe of Dansadau, a community within the notorious Kwiambana Game Reserve that spans across Nigeria’s North-west and North-central regions. This dense forest has become a hotspot for criminal activities, including previous abductions of students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the Kaduna State Government has remained silent on the matter. While efforts are being made by security agencies to secure the unconditional release of the children, President Bola Tinubu has taken a firm stance against paying ransom to kidnappers anywhere in the country.

In a recent address to the press in Abuja, Information Minister Mohammed Idris reiterated the president’s directive to prioritize the safe return of all kidnapped victims without succumbing to the demands of criminal elements. This resolute stance underscores the government’s commitment to combating the scourge of kidnapping and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

As the community anxiously awaits the fate of the abducted pupils, the call for unity and resilience in the face of adversity grows stronger. The international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution to this distressing ordeal.
