Bendel Insurance’s assistant coach, Greg Ikhenoba, has pinpointed lack of concentration as the reason behind his team’s 3-1 loss to Akwa United. Despite Zaidu Ayuba scoring a consolation goal for Insurance, Akwa United dominated with goals from Ubong Friday (twice) and Sani Suleiman.
Ikhenoba acknowledged the need to address the defensive lapses before their upcoming match in Benin. Reflecting on the disappointing result, he emphasized the importance of player mentality in achieving success on the field.
“In football, every coach and team approach games with their strategy believing he is going to win but the result is determined in the field of play,” Ikhenoba stated in a post-match interview. “Winning at this level depends on the mentality of the players.”
Expressing his surprise at conceding two quick goals, Ikhenoba highlighted the valuable lessons to be learned from the game. Despite the host team’s fierce determination, he felt that his players fell short in their performance.
With 34 points from 25 games this season, Bendel Insurance is determined to regroup and improve for their next challenge. Ikhenoba’s commitment to addressing the team’s weaknesses underscores their determination to bounce back stronger.
