The newly elected chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Tajudeen Baruwa, has issued a plea to President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging them to intervene and ensure his predecessor, Najeem Yasin, vacates the national secretariat as per the court’s ruling.
Baruwa’s call for action was made during a press conference held in Abuja, where he emphasized the importance of upholding the court’s decision that reaffirmed his position as the legitimate president of the union.
Represented by his lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, Baruwa highlighted the necessity for Yasin to comply with the court order to prevent any potential disruption of peace and order within the union.
Addressing a recent social media video where Yasin dismissed the court’s authority, Baruwa issued a stern warning, emphasizing the need for adherence to the legal directives.
In a direct appeal to key government officials including the President, Minister of Justice, Attorney General, Minister of Labour and Employment, Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 7, and FCT Commissioner of Police, Baruwa urged them to enforce the National Industrial Court’s ruling recognizing him as the rightful president of NURTW.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Baruwa urged union members to remain calm, assuring them that the relevant authorities would take necessary steps to ensure compliance with the court’s decision.
As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize adherence to legal rulings to maintain order and stability within the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
