In a swift turn of events, Senator Abdul Ningi of the PDP Bauchi Central has resigned as Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, paving the way for Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua of the APC Katsina Central to take the helm.
Yar’Adua’s appointment as the new Chairman came after a unanimous endorsement from senators representing the three geo-political zones in the North. Additionally, Senator Mohammed Monguno of the APC Borno North was appointed as the Publicity Secretary, succeeding Senator Summaila Kawu of the NNPP Kano South.
During a press briefing following his appointment, Yar’Adua emphasized the Forum’s commitment to prioritizing the interests of Nigeria and fostering development in the North through collaboration with colleagues from the South. He also underscored the importance of working closely with the executive branch to address the region’s challenges.
With a focus on transparency, accountability, and integrity, Yar’Adua pledged to lead the Northern Senators’ Forum with civility and adherence to the rule of law. He expressed confidence in the collective efforts of the Forum to bring about positive change, uplift the North, and contribute to the nation’s overall development.
In his acceptance speech, Yar’Adua expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Forum and acknowledged the pressing issues facing the Northern region, such as security, agriculture, education, healthcare, and human trafficking. He committed to addressing these challenges through robust legislation in collaboration with senators from the South.
