In a groundbreaking move, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Edo South Senatorial District have come together to endorse Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama as the running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming polls in the State on September 21, 2024.
The endorsement took place during a crucial meeting in Abuja, where APC chieftains, former governorship aspirants, and stakeholders from the southern part of Edo State gathered to show their support. Ogbeide-Ihama, a former member of the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has now defected to the APC, bringing with him a significant following from the Dan Orbih-led faction of the PDP in Edo South.
The unity and strength of support behind Ogbeide-Ihama’s nomination have been described as unprecedented by one of the leaders present at the meeting. With the backing of all APC leaders from Edo South, including ward leaders and factional chairmen from across the three senatorial districts in Edo State, the party is poised to secure victory in the Benin zone for the first time.
Senator Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate, expressed his full endorsement of Ogbeide-Ihama and the united front formed by APC leaders from Edo South. He emphasized the party’s readiness and unity going into the elections, exuding confidence in his prospects of becoming the next governor of Edo State.
Notable personalities in attendance at the meeting included General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Senator Mathew Urhogide, Lucky Imasuen, among others, underscoring the significance of the momentous occasion.
With this unprecedented show of unity and support, the APC in Edo State is set to make history in the upcoming elections, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape of the region. Victory seems within reach as the party harnesses the collective strength and determination of its members towards a common goal.
