The Olubadan-in-Council announced on Friday that the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland does not have a specific date yet. This revelation came after a closed-door meeting between former Oyo State governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, and the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at the Alalubosa residence in Ibadan.
The meeting was held following the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who reigned for two years before his demise at the age of 81 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan. Ladoja clarified that Ibadan already has an Olubadan-designate from the Balogun line, as tradition dictates.
The focus of the meeting was to formalize the next steps after the completion of the burial rites for the deceased monarch. It was agreed that the late Oba Balogun would be buried in accordance with Islamic customs at his ancestral home in Aliiwo on the same day. The Olubadan-in-Council members present at the meeting included Ladoja, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Oba Adebayo Akande, and Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi.
While the coronation date for the new Olubadan is yet to be determined, it will be announced once the burial rites for the late monarch are concluded. Stay tuned for further updates on this significant event in Ibadanland.
