NFF Urged to Consider Nigerian Coach for Super Eagles Success

Retired sports administrator Elias Gora has made a compelling case for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider appointing a Nigerian coach to lead the Super Eagles. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Gora emphasized the importance of giving local coaches the opportunity to showcase their talent and expertise.

Gora pointed out that Nigerian coaches have a proven track record of success and have made significant contributions to the national team in the past. He cited examples of other African countries like Cameroon and Senegal, who have achieved success by appointing local coaches to lead their teams.

“It’s your own that will lead you to success,” Gora stated, highlighting the success stories of countries like Cote D’Ivoire, who thrived under the guidance of a local coach. He urged the NFF to look within the country and select a coach who understands the Nigerian football landscape and can connect with the players on a deeper level.

The NFF technical committee recently met to review applications from coaches vying for the position of Super Eagles coach, following the departure of Jose Peseiro. The committee is also considering candidates for the head coach position of the U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets.

Notable Nigerian coaches such as Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, and Salisu Yusuf have all thrown their hats in the ring to lead the Super Eagles. Similarly, coaches like Manu Garba, Nduka Ugbade, and Abdullahi Biffo are interested in taking charge of the Golden Eaglets.

As the NFF deliberates on the best candidates for these crucial roles, Gora’s words serve as a reminder of the wealth of talent and experience that Nigerian coaches bring to the table. By giving local coaches the opportunity to lead the national teams, Nigeria can harness their passion and knowledge to achieve greater success on the international stage.
