Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam has announced his candidacy for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the goal of completing the tenure of ousted Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, a fellow Benue and North Central native.

Speaking in Katsina-Ala on Friday during a meeting with the Benue North East PDP expanded caucus, Suswam shared his intentions with party leaders. He highlighted that he had received blessings from key figures in the state, including former governor Samuel Ortom, Sen. David Mark, Sen. Abba Moro, and the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP.

Citing the party’s constitution and historical precedent, Suswam emphasized the right of the North Central region, particularly Benue, to complete the tenure of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, which was prematurely ended by a court ruling.

Expressing his unwavering commitment to the PDP, Suswam pledged to foster unity within the party and mobilize support in preparation for the 2023 elections. He urged party members to set aside past grievances and work together towards a common goal, emphasizing the PDP’s role as a leading force for Nigeria’s future.

Support for Suswam’s candidacy was echoed by prominent party members, including Chief Mrs. Margaret Icheen, the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, North Central secretary Hon. Maurice Tsav, and others.

As the PDP gears up for the upcoming political landscape, Suswam’s bid for national chairmanship signifies a pivotal moment for the party and the North Central region. With a focus on continuity, unity, and progress, his candidacy embodies the spirit of resilience and determination within the PDP.
