The Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, has provided reassurance to Nigerians that the school feeding program, which was suspended by the Federal Government, will soon be reinstated.
President Bola Tinubu had announced the suspension of all programs under the National Social Investment Programme Agency for a period of six weeks. This suspension included the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and the Home Grown School Feeding Programme. The decision to suspend these programs was made following an investigation into alleged mismanagement within the agency and its programs.
Despite the passage of nine weeks since the suspension, the programs, including the school feeding initiative, have yet to resume. However, during the launch of the non-governmental organization, Create that Change Development Initiative, Dr. Olatunji-David expressed confidence that the school feeding program would return in a more robust and effective manner. She emphasized that thorough planning was underway to ensure the successful implementation of the program.
Dr. Olatunji-David highlighted the expansion of the program to cover basic education in its entirety, as directed by the President. She emphasized the importance of meticulous planning to guarantee a seamless execution once the directives are received.
The Director commended the efforts of the organization and acknowledged the potential impact of their programs on the well-being and development of children, adolescents, and society as a whole. The founder of the NGO, Mrs. Sharon Ayeni, shared her commitment to addressing critical challenges and uplifting those in need in Nigeria. She outlined the organization’s ambitious vision, including the implementation of various initiatives such as the Enhancing Nutrition, Exercise, and Reading Initiative (ENERI) in schools across the country.
Mrs. Ayeni’s vision extends to initiatives like the Build Her Initiative, Toilet Angels Initiative, and Teacher-to-Teacher Mentoring Initiative, all aimed at making a tangible difference in the lives of children and youth in Nigeria. With a focus on eradicating poverty and supporting vulnerable populations, the organization is dedicated to driving positive change and fostering a brighter future for all.
