The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, made a significant announcement over the weekend regarding the relocation of motor parks along Milverton Avenue in Abia State. This decision was made to improve the ease of movement for the city’s residents, following a series of fire outbreaks in Aba markets and other business facilities.
During an assessment of the fire incident at Ehere Market in Aba, Otti witnessed the aftermath of the devastating fire that engulfed vehicles, items, and parts of the building housing the bus terminal of Chisco Transport Company. The Governor expressed concern over the crowded nature of Chisco Park and other parks along the one-kilometer street, recognizing the potential for disaster in such congested areas.
Otti emphasized the need to relocate the parks to more spacious locations, mentioning Osisioma and Port Harcourt Road as potential alternatives. He stressed the importance of preventing future incidents by spreading out the vehicles and ensuring easier access in case of emergencies.
In addition to the park relocation, Otti directed that all business facilities in the state must have fire extinguishers installed on their premises to mitigate fire outbreaks. Enforcement of this policy is set to begin the following week, as the Governor aims to enhance fire safety measures across Abia State.
Despite the unfortunate fire incident at the Chisco office, Otti commended the efforts of the state fire service for their swift response and hard work in extinguishing the flames. The Governor’s proactive approach to addressing fire safety concerns reflects his commitment to protecting the welfare of the state’s residents.
By prioritizing public safety and implementing strategic measures, Governor Alex Otti is taking decisive action to prevent future disasters and ensure the well-being of Abia State’s communities.
