Senator Ned Nwoko Urges Transformation of Illegal Arms Talents for National Development

In a recent development, Senator Ned Nwoko of the PDP in Delta has expressed deep concern over the discovery of an illegal bomb and arms factory by the Nigerian Army in a community in Delta. This discovery, made by the troops of the 63 Brigade, highlights a pressing national issue that needs immediate attention.

Senator Nwoko, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, emphasized the importance of taking decisive action to prevent the proliferation of illegal arms manufacturing. However, he also pointed out that the talents behind such factories could be redirected towards building legitimate industries for national development.

The discovery of the illegal arms manufacturing factory in Onicha-Olona community in Delta presents an opportunity for positive transformation. Senator Nwoko highlighted the need for Nigeria to harness its indigenous talents to address the economic challenges facing the country. He called on the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to engage individuals with such skills and provide them with legal avenues for their expertise to flourish.

The illegal factory was found to contain a cache of arms and sophisticated equipment for manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additionally, the manufacturer demonstrated the ability to modify AK47 magazines to carry 60 rounds of ammunition instead of the standard 30 rounds. Senator Nwoko stressed the potential of individuals with such skills and called for proper legal support and access to resources to help them achieve more.

Senator Nwoko also emphasized the role of the Ministry of Science and Technology in supporting indigenous scientists and technologists. He advocated for a system that embraces and acknowledges inventions and special skills, leading to technological advancements and job creation.
