Barcelona icon Gerard Pique has put forward Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as a strong contender to take over from Xavi as the next head coach of the Spanish giants.

Xavi recently announced his decision to step down as Barcelona’s head coach at the end of the current season, leaving the club in search of a new leader. Pique, who shared the pitch with Xavi for seven seasons, believes that there is still a possibility that Xavi may reconsider his departure.

However, if Xavi does indeed leave, Pique sees Arteta and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the top candidates to fill the vacant position. Pique emphasized the importance of having a coach who aligns with Barcelona’s unique playing philosophy.

Arteta, a former Barcelona player, is already familiar with the club’s style of play and could seamlessly transition into the role left by Xavi. While Guardiola also boasts a successful history with Barcelona, Pique highlighted Arteta as a standout choice due to his deep understanding of the club and his experience as a coach.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Pique shared his thoughts on the potential candidates, stating, “I don’t think it’s a decision that is 100 per cent. The obvious ones are Guardiola, because he had his past here, and he is the best coach right now, and Arteta. He would be a good one also. He understands Barcelona and played for Barca in the past.”

As Barcelona continues its search for a new head coach, the football world eagerly awaits to see who will step into the prestigious role and lead the club into a new era of success. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
