Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju is calling on the Federal Government to ensure that justice is served for the 16 Nigerian Army personnel who were brutally killed during a peace mission to the Okuama community in Delta State. The tragic ambush on Thursday, March 14, 2024, resulted in the loss of a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, 12 soldiers, and one civilian, with their bodies hidden by the assailants.

The conflict stems from a longstanding communal land dispute between Okoloba and Okuama, escalating on January 27, 2024, when three Okuama youths were ambushed and killed by Okoloba youths. The tension further intensified when Okuama youths recently held an Okoloba native, Mr. Anthony Aboh, hostage.

In response to the devastating incident, Deji Adeyanju condemned the attack as a “dastardly act” and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Expressing deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, Adeyanju highlighted the noble mission the soldiers were on, emphasizing their dedication to serving the country and bringing peace to the region.

As we mourn the loss of these brave men and women, let us honor their courage, dedication, and selflessness. May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may their sacrifice never be forgotten. Let us stand together in demanding justice for the fallen heroes who gave their lives in service of their country.
