The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a thorough investigation into an alleged data breach involving citizens’ information by XpressVerify. In a statement released by the Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, it was clarified that XpressVerify is not an authorized partner for NIN verification services.
NIMC reassured the public that the data of citizens is secure and protected within Nigeria’s National Identity Database. The Commission emphasized that there has been no breach of data and that citizens’ information remains safe.
Following the allegations, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote has promptly initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine if any Tokenisation verification agents associated with the Commission have violated their licensing agreement, either directly or through their sub-licensees.
This development comes after the Nigeria Data Protection Commission previously ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter. The focus now is on ensuring the integrity and security of citizens’ data in the face of potential breaches.
As the investigation unfolds, NIMC remains committed to upholding the trust and confidence of the public in the security of their personal information. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
