The Labour Party Issues Warning to Federal Lawmakers
The Labour Party, LP, has issued a stern warning to federal lawmakers, particularly members of the House of Representatives, who were elected on its platform. In a statement released by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, it was made clear that these lawmakers must respect the party’s supremacy or face disciplinary action.
The statement highlighted the disappointment in the behavior of the lawmakers, noting that they have not been true ambassadors of the people and the Labour Party. It specifically called out the LP’s caucus leader in the House of Representatives, Hon Afam Ogene, for his remarks on the party’s internal processes.
Ifoh criticized Ogene for his lack of understanding of the party’s constitution, emphasizing that the Labour Party operates differently from other political parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The statement expressed concern over the lawmakers’ tendency to rush to the media with party matters instead of addressing them internally.
The party spokesperson lamented that the elected members have not effectively represented the interests of the people and the party, despite the challenges facing the country. He urged them to prioritize the party’s unity and ideology over personal interests.
In a firm tone, the statement warned that any party member, including lawmakers, who disregards the party’s authority will face consequences. The Labour Party is committed to upholding its principles and will not tolerate actions that undermine its integrity.
It is clear that the Labour Party expects loyalty and respect from its elected officials, and it is prepared to take decisive action to maintain discipline within its ranks. The message to the lawmakers is unequivocal: prioritize the party’s interests above personal agendas.
