The Federal Capital Territory Police Command recently made a significant arrest, capturing a dismissed soldier named Gabriel Elihu in military attire for attempting a kidnapping in the FCT. Elihu’s arrest on March 17 came after he tried to abduct two victims traveling from Gishiri village to H-Medix in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.
Accompanied by other gang members, Elihu used an unregistered Toyota Hilux to track the victims, robbing them of their belongings and attempting to take them to an undisclosed location. Fortunately, the victims raised an alarm, leading to the police intercepting the suspects and making the arrest.
During the suspects’ parade at the FCT Police Command, Commissioner Benneth Igweh revealed the recovery of a black Toyota Hilux with the license plate NBB 03 AH (Nasarawa), along with a jackknife and military gear.
In an interview, Elihu confessed that a friend, a serving military member, introduced him to the criminal activity of extorting money from unsuspecting individuals while dressed in military uniforms. He expressed remorse for his actions, stating that it was his first time participating in such a scheme and acknowledging his mistake.
This incident sheds light on the dangers of impersonation and criminal activities, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and law enforcement efforts in ensuring public safety. The swift response of the FCT Police Command serves as a reminder of the dedication and commitment of authorities to combat crime and protect citizens.
