Federal Capital Territory Police Command Arrests Dismissed Soldier in Military Uniform for Attempted Kidnapping
On March 17, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command apprehended Gabriel Elihu, a dismissed soldier disguised in military attire, for an attempted kidnapping in the FCT. The incident occurred as Elihu and his accomplices targeted two victims traveling from Gishiri village to H-Medix in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.
Using an unregistered Toyota Hilux, the gang trailed the victims, robbed them of their belongings, and attempted to abduct them. Fortunately, the victims managed to raise an alarm, leading to the swift intervention of the police, who successfully intercepted the suspects.
During a press briefing at the FCT Police Command headquarters in Abuja, Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh revealed that the authorities recovered a black Toyota Hilux bearing the number plate NBB 03 AH (Nasarawa), along with a jackknife and military paraphernalia.
In a shocking confession, Elihu admitted that a serving military friend had introduced him to the criminal activity of extorting money from unsuspecting individuals while dressed in military uniform. He expressed remorse for his actions, emphasizing that it was his first time participating in such a heinous act.
The arrest of Elihu serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals exploiting their former affiliations for criminal purposes. The swift response of the FCT Police Command highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the region.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working diligently to uncover any potential accomplices and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation within communities to combat crime and uphold the rule of law.
The apprehension of Gabriel Elihu sends a clear message that criminal activities will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement and the public are essential in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
