President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt recently met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Major General Abbas Kamel.
During the meeting, Secretary Blinken conveyed greetings from US President Joe Biden and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s crucial role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. President El-Sisi, in turn, praised the strong strategic partnership between the two countries and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration on regional and international issues.
The discussions focused on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of captives. President El-Sisi emphasized the humanitarian crisis facing the people of Gaza, warning of the dire consequences of a military operation in the city of Rafah. He called for immediate action to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need and stressed the importance of advancing the two-state solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Secretary Blinken commended Egypt’s efforts to promote calm in the region and reiterated the United States’ commitment to working together to restore stability and security. Both sides agreed on the necessity of ensuring access to humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza and rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands.
